Syntax and Sonnets
a physical game designed to blend poetry and programming
The Idea: A Passion Project Unveiled
Sonnets and Syntax emerged from a interest in both poetry and programming. It all started with a simple desire to create a Rubik’s Cube-like puzzle, but as ideas started to flow and inspiration struck, a new vision took shape. One brainstorming idea stuck: a gaming set that harmonizes the artistry of sonnets with the logic of syntax. I decided to fuse of two seemingly separate worlds.
The Design Process: Blueprints
The process of refining my ideas was especially continuous in this project. I am really happy with the outside design, the Basquiat font encompasses the messages well.

Challenges
Formatting Issues
Adobe Illustrator is a tool that I have years if familiarity with. Getting this specific formatting correct because of the file types
(PDF v. JPG v. SVG)
Production
The settings on my Gloweforge did not fit for the material I had. There auto – recommendations left me with wood that wasn’t quite right in terms of what I was looking for. The cuts did not go all the way through. It also burned in some areas.
Internal Challenges
Making projects that are internally satisfying to me has been something that I am trying to prioritize. I stuck with this idea because it was true to me, but I struggle with always thinking I can alter it to make it better for the user.
